Song in my head

Laari Choote from the film Ek Chaalis ki Local.

Incidentally ‘laari’ would generally mean lorry or truck, but here it refers to a train. And it probably means something like loved one - or laadli - in Punjabi.

So it appears that the hero and heroine are going to miss the last local home. The actors in question being Abhay Deol and Neha Dhupia, at least the song will create some buzz for the film! More than some silly kiss for sure.

The moment you hear ‘Laari Choote’ you know there’s gotta be a Pakistani behind it. And that is the case. Xulfi of the popular band The Call. But this song is a solo effort.

One has to ask - yeh Pakistani musicians mein kya jadoo hai? Atif Aslam’s recent Doorie is another amazing piece of work. Not just the title track, the entire album rocks!

Mahesh Bhatt, for once, gets it right. Speaking to the IHT, he notes: “Pakistani music had an appeal akin to that of African-American music in the United States: a tradition of song inspired by suffering”.

Moral of the story: If you have a star cast which may make the audience suffer, throw in a Pakistani song or two! Agar Emran Hashmi ko neutralise kiya ja sakta hai, to Nehaji to chhotee si cheez hain.

Since you have put music as a label here and mentioned Atif, i would certainly recommend taht you listen to Sona… She is the new singer, released her albumn ‘SONA’ and trust me, this chic has a distinct voice and her songs do not have the normal pyaar wala lyrics, more sensible and best of all, the guitar guy in her songs is amazing…

Its amazing what Pakistani music has done for the Indian teenager per se. I mean Strings comes here to perform somewhere and ppl make such a hullabulla abt it! Would not imagine this like 5 yrs back even with my generation.

Paki music rocks! I have been following their leading lights for some time.

Noticed ‘The Call’ in their last album, ‘Jilawatan’. Check out the song, ‘Sab Bhula Ke’. It rocks!!

i was watching dis interview with atif aslam on mtv india de other day…..in it he was asked about how pakistanis create such gr8 music…his ans was essentialy dat the pakistani film industry in stil in de nascent stage…hence majority of the youth r inspired by U2,beatles n othr similar rock,pop/rock bands frm de West…..hence dat unique feel to eir songs….in india howevr its a dream to b a part of a bollywood venture….jst take a rocker like vishal of pentagram n how he too has had to adjust to de culture here….that i thnk is de fundamental difference….

“Pakistani music” sounds good because first of all, we get to hear only their best music (the bad stuff doesnt filter to our side) and secondly it hits much closer to heart than music from other countries which will always be in a different language and different style.

So it is ours, yet not ours :)

hey rashmi, we have our own aatif in kunal gunjawaala. That guy seriously gives a tough fight to aatif on both melody, quality and recall value of songs…:).Listen to kunal’s recent tracks…they rock!

I agree with Aditya………Pakistani music feels closer to heart because after all we share same culture. Just imagine if partition wouldn’t have happened. There would be no kashmir issue….
On lighter side, the resulting cricket team would have been the best in world ;)

    hi…
    this is really rocking song…
i just surf all fm channals on my mobile to find out where it is?i m a newcomer to mumbai(just one month) and this song really represents my thoughts…
one more thing…paki bands me koi jaadooo nahi hai yaar..they have just cameup as a change so we like them….thts all…remember the buzz created for adnan sami and abhijeet sawant

  17. noreply@blogger.com (praneet) Says:

quality matters.. we lack it here..abhijeet sawant et al..designer clothes.stupid videos… atif is facing a lot of criticism in pak for his “stooping down” for indian market..most of the songs in doorie are remixes from jalpari..he’ll release “hangami halaat” in pak to pacify the purists.
